Smarter Choices, Smarter Places (SCSP) is a sustainable transport behaviour change programme funded by Paths for All. SCSP funding is normally allocated by Transport Scotland to local authorities on an annual basis.
The funding period is 1 April 2024 – 31 March 2025. It is hoped that funding will be confirmed in March 2024 to start on 1 April 2024. This depends on Transport Scotland.
The City of Edinburgh Council plan to allocate a portion of funds to support local organisations to promote the uptake of active and sustainable travel in the community.
The outcomes of SCSP (where proposed projects should focus on one of these outcomes, and measure the impact using the metrics provided) are:
- More people choose to walk or cycle for short local journeys
- More people choose sustainable transport options for longer journeys
- People develop more positive attitudes towards sustainable transport options
- People’s knowledge about sustainable transport increases
- There is an increased evidence base to support sustainable travel interventions
The City of Edinburgh Council expect the total amount of funding available to organisations to be in the region of £250,000, but this is subject to review and subject to the Council’s allocation from Transport Scotland.
