In 2024 the latest iteration of the New Scots Refugee Integration Strategy was published. This national strategy, led jointly by the Scottish Government, COSLA and Scottish Refugee Council, provides a national framework for supporting refugees, people seeking asylum and other forced migrants.
In Edinburgh, we are working closely with the City of Edinburgh Council and community/voluntary sector partners to consult, draft and design a New Scots strategy for the city. This will recognise the work done to date, build upon that work and be ambitious for future actions and partnerships working to support New Scots to integrate into Edinburgh.
The process of writing a new strategy started on 16 November 2023 with the Strength through Partnership Edinburgh event at Easter Road Stadium. With over 100 people in attendance -partners, key stakeholders and people with lived experience – come together for a range of discussions on themes relating to New Scots integration identified by the University of Glasgow report.
