Target Audience:
Staff working directly with children and families and particularly useful for social workers, teachers, police, health staff and family support services based in Edinburgh in need of an in-depth knowledge of neglect.
Content:
This course will focus on the complexities of working with the issues of neglect and in particular:
- Consideration of the challenges of working with neglect and how these may be overcome
- Opportunity to consider emotional neglect and helping parents to recognise and understand this
- A more in-depth look at how child development is a dynamic process shaped by historical and current interactions between child, family and environment
- Opportunity to consider how to evidence and present concerns within different child protection systems
- Introduction to using ‘risk of neglect toolkit’
- Introduce practical resource to use in working and engaging with parents who are neglectful
- Opportunity to explore activities such as the Last 24 hours
- Time to reflect on current practice and consider some new ideas
