Positive Help has nearly 40 years’ experience supporting adults, children and families living with, or affected by, HIV and Hepatitis C across Edinburgh and the Lothians. Their services are delivered by carefully recruited, trained and supported volunteers and include:
• Supportive Transport for health appointments, medication and engaging with support
• Live Well, offering goal-oriented support to help adults maintain independence and quality of life
• Children’s Services, including befriending, study support, and support for parents and carers
Many of the people they support experience a combination of health challenges, isolation, poverty and stigma. They also recognise that people do not always disclose HIV or Hepatitis C to the organisations they work with, meaning there may be individuals who could benefit from their services without professionals being aware of their circumstances.
They have recently launched a new website and updated their service information. Click here.
Here you will find a printable flyer which can be useful:
• As a quick reference for staff
• When discussing potential referrals with individuals
• For display in reception areas, waiting rooms or community spaces so people can access information independently
They believe that making information available in public-facing spaces can be particularly valuable for people who may not wish to disclose their HIV or Hepatitis C status but would still benefit from specialist support.
Referrals can be made by professionals, family members or individuals themselves, and often begin with a simple telephone conversation to explore how the organisation may be able to provide support and assistance.
