The Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership (EHSCP) is exploring a proposal to open a safer drug consumption facility (SDCF) in Edinburgh’s Old Town. A SDCF would give people with a drug use problem a place to take drugs under the care of medical professionals. They would have access to a safe, clean space to use drugs that they bring themselves. Also, access to other services, such as drug treatment, healthcare, or housing advice.
They are looking at two possible locations – around Spittal Street or around Cowgate/Holyrood Road.
The consultation will help them understand people’s views on a safer drug consumption facility. They would particularly like to hear from people who would be most affected by the facility. This includes:
• people who take drugs, or used to take drugs, and their families
• those who live or work around the two possible locations.
