Wed 15 June 2022, 10am – 1pm
This free half day workshop will focus on the rights of private sector tenants. The workshop will be led by two expert lawyers, Mary-Claire Kelly from Clan Childlaw and Vicki Pirie from Shelter Scotland.
More people than ever are making their home in the Private Rented Sector. Young people are particularly likely to find themselves in private tenancies, unsure of their rights. During the workshop, we will look at the rights of tenants to live in a property that is not affected by disrepair and explain how to deal with a landlord who is failing to carry out repairs. We will provide advice on eviction, including the grounds for eviction and how to prevent eviction. We will also provide information on tenancy deposit schemes and what advice to give a tenant who is in dispute with their landlord over the deposit. The workshop will focus on case studies to provide you with the practical tools they need to assist their service users.
This workshop will be relevant to anyone who supports children, young people, or families in private tenancies. It will be of particular interest to housing advisers, community/residents’ groups, support workers, and those who work with children, young people and families with housing issues.
