School of Hard Knocks deliver life-changing programmes across the UK. We change the lives of children and adults using rugby supported by a curriculum of powerful life lessons.
We are recruiting for our upcoming women’s course funded by Muirhouse Housing Association starting next week on the 19th from Spartans Community Football Academy.
We’re are delighted to say that we have managed to secure 2 fantastic female coaches/staff members for the course in Megan Gaffney and Lisa Martin who between them have a combined 71 international appearances.
We will be running each Tuesday and Wednesday for 7 weeks (19th Feb – 3rd April) from 945-230 where we will look to address any issues around unemployment, crime or health. Our aim is for each participant to move forward in their life whether that be feeling fitter, more motivated or happier along with exploring any social inclusion, further education, volunteering or employment goals.
We are delighted to bring our course to the North of Edinburgh as we’re extremely proud of the impactful work we have had in various communities across Edinburgh and Fife so far. Our work in Edinburgh has had great success with substance misuse/recovery referrals via Turning point, with 4 of such graduating from our most recent cohort.
With regards to Mental Health, across all 8 courses we have delivered in the last 2 years 96% feel more cheerful, 84.3% feel more confident, 93% feel optimistic about the future and 85% feel good about themselves come the end of the course. Our work in Fife has made a big difference with those referred via support workers and other providers. Gordon from our Glenrothes cohort was referred by his Support Worker said “I suffer from social anxiety and was unemployed and going through a hard time with mental health, but that has improved a lot since becoming involved. I’m not scared anymore to be part of a group. I have better self esteem and I’ve been given the right tools to go to try and find work and have a career. Mentally I am in a better place for my wife and kids. I am out and about, trying to do things and keeping myself busy.”
Referring is as easy as giving us a call or email as we do no referral or sign up paperwork. We’re happy to phone or meet people ahead of the course starting also to have a chat and give more info.
