Domestic Abuse Training (Level 1)

18 January 2024 By EVOC Comms

Level One: Re-thinking domestic abuse: Confident practice and safer families

Fri 9 Feb 2024, 9am – 1pm @ RM1, West Pilton Neighbourhood Centre (WPNC)

Domestic abuse features heavily in the lives of children on the Child Protection Register, looked after children, young offenders and in those displaying bullying and disruptive classroom behaviour. Domestic abuse is also a feature in the lives of many people with mental health problems, people who misuse alcohol and drugs and women offenders. It is a factor in many violent crime figures, including murder, and in a substantial number of homeless applications and disputed child contact cases.

Level One: Re-thinking domestic abuse: Confident practice and safer families

  • What is domestic abuse and why does it happen?
  • Understand domestic abuse in the context of gender based violence
  • Define domestic abuse as a form of coercive control and describe the impact on victims and their families
  • An opportunity to consider the diverse groups affected by domestic abuse
  • Time to reflect on your own role and response to domestic abuse

This training is provided by the Edinburgh Child Protection Committee and is for staff working with individuals and families within Edinburgh.
