Befriending Programme: Looking for Volunteers

24 June 2022 By EVOC Communications Team

LINKnet Mentoring is currently looking for volunteers for their befriending programme. The focus of their work is amongst immigrants, refugees, and ethnic minorities in helping them transition to living in Scotland.

They’re seeking both befrienders and befriendees to help reduce isolation and loneliness within Edinburgh.

For befriendees it is an opportunity for them to practice/develop their English language skills, build a meaningful relationship, and focus on whatever is most important to them all while having some fun.

For befrienders it offers a chance to give back, and make a difference in someone’s life while also developing their own skills further.

Either way for two hours a week, it’s a great way to get more connected with people in Edinburgh, gain a bit of volunteer experience, and work on a meaningful project. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, they’d love to hear from you and are happy to answer any questions.

New SLCo Youth Club 16-25yrs

17 June 2022 By EVOC Communications Team

SLCo’s (The Speech Language Communication Company) Edinburgh Chill Youth Club will support 16-25 year olds with lifelong speech, language and/or communication difficulties.

There will be a specific focus on the young people/young adults building connections and friendships with each other as well as improving social confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

Many young people feel isolated due to their communication difficulties and require support for developing independence and their social skills. Therefore, it is their intention to provide a trusted and safe space where they can enjoy a wide range of fun activities which have been driven by their input and interests.

Additionally, through consultation with the young people involved they envisage holding some specialist ‘Workshops’ as part of the Youth Club sessions and these would be delivered by their partners across the City.
