TODAY is World Mental Health Day (#WMHD on Twitter.) The World Health Organisation has named this year’s theme as: Depression – A Global Crisis.
An estimated 350 million people worldwide suffer from depression. In some countries fewer than 10 per cent of those who need it have access to treatment for depression.
NHS Lothian delivers its mental health services under the strategy – A Sense of Belonging – which sets out a clear vision, principles and approach for how the public, people with lived and living experience of mental illness and mental health problems, people who use services, carers, the third sector, the four local authorities and NHS Lothian, will work together across Lothian to improve our mental health and wellbeing for people of all ages and ensure that the services delivered have an ethos of recovery embedded within them.
In Edinburgh the Royal Edinburgh Hospital provides acute psychiatric and mental health services, including treatment for learning disabilities and dementia. Its specialist services include centres for the treatment of eating disorders, alcohol problems and young people’s mental health.
These services are being re-provided over the next 10 to 15 years using a Public Social Partnership approach. EVOC is the lead Third Sector partner in this programme. As part of our work to ensure that those with an interest are kept appropriately informed, we publish feedback from key meetings.
The latest feedback comes from the September meeting of the PSP Steering Group.
If you’d like to discuss this work – or further opportunities for using a PSP approach – please contact Milind Kolhatkar (on 0131 555 9100) in the first instance.
