We’re leading a new project to help Community Centres across Edinburgh build sustainable plans for the future and increase their capacity to provide activities and services for people in their communities.
Part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the project will work with 41 Community Centres – 34 are run jointly by City of Edinburgh Council and a Management Committee and 7 by a Management Committee alone.
Robert Scott (Voluntary Sector Organisational Development Worker) is leading the project:
‘We’ve already started talking to people from the 41 Management Committees as this project is about what support and resources they really need. These Centres sit at the heart of communities in our city, providing space and activities for people of all ages to come together and this funding is designed to make sure they can continue to do that for years to come.’
Working in partnership with Andrew Field (Head of Community Empowerment and Engagement Service) and his team at the City of Edinburgh Council we will bring Management Committee members together to look at:
- Governance Structures, Documents & Planning
- Trustee / Board Member Support & Development
- Activity Programme Support & Development
- Buildings (condition and ownership)
- Finance & Funding
- Establishing a Community Centre Forum
The Community Centres Support Project is funded for 2 years and in consultation with representatives of the Management Committees involved will provide a range of training and development opportunities, shared learning spaces and potentially the development a new Community Centres Forum.
