Shelly-Ann Brown

I previously supported EVOC's Chief Executive - Bridie Ashrowan - in my role as Executive Assistant. I worked alongside the Chief Executive to provide high levels of support, liaise between teams and take on new challenges as they arise, contributing to the delivery of EVOC’s strategic objectives.

I have contributed my skills in the public & private sectors, and academia for the past 10 years. I graduated from Napier University with a PhD in Economics and data analysis, and received my MSc in Economics from Erasmus University in the Netherlands. I have presented my research work at conferences to various audiences, hosted in Japan, Germany, Scotland, Malaysia, and China. I am also a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM). Particularly, I led a team that was assigned the task of investigating the Marriage Act (1923) of Trinidad and Tobago, and presenting substantial arguments in favour of ending child marriages. My research was presented by the Minister of Gender, Youth, and Child in parliament, which contributed in the amendment of legislation (voted in unanimously) to outlaw the practice. Today, the minimum age of marriage is increased from 13 years to 18 years under all religious communities.

Additionally, I volunteer my free time by serving on several charity boards in Scotland offering strategic direction, and building positive relationships in the community. I champion diversity and inclusion particularly for women, children, the BAME community, and refugees and asylum seekers.
