Volunteer Filmmaker Needed For Craigmillar Tapestry Project

16 February 2021 By Esther Currie

Connecting Craigmillar is seeking any interested volunteer film-makers/documentary makers in audio or film who would like to interview and document the story of the people involved in their Tapestry Project. This is to both document the history and stories connected to the images in the panel, but also share and record the stories of being involved and the impact the project has had on Craigmillar now and going forward into the future.

Craigmillar Tapestry Project
The Craigmillar Tapestry Project is the creation of a community tapestry representing the past, present and future of Craigmillar, in Edinburgh. It is a community project made up of a series of panels, designed and stitched by various members of the local community. Designs cover historical figures, places and moments in the history of the area, like Agnes Moffat, child activist against coal mining for children, Reg Bolton, community circus performer, and Craigmillar Castle, and also contemporary themes and experiences. The panels also contain smaller squares representing each person involved in stitching them. The final panels will be displayed and exhibited at the Craigmillar Now Arts Centre by Fort Kinnaird and eventually the new Castlebrae high school. It is building on the history of the Craigmillar Festival Society and is done in collaboration with the artist Andrew Crummy, who led the Great Tapestry of Scotland, and is the son of Helen Crummy, the original founder of the Craigmillar Festival society.

Documenting the Project
Individual interviews could be organised, as well as group interviews and filming within the area at specific sites outdoors. There is also the chance to show members of the community filming skills as part of this. Expenses would be covered.
