People Know How have adapted their Reconnect service in light of the coronavirus outbreak, to continue to support vulnerable adults by phone and online.
The majority of Reconnect projects use one-to-one befriending to support vulnerable adults. As a result of lockdown, they’ve developed this approach into Distance Befriending, supporting adults over the phone or via video calling.
Reconnect offers over-the-phone befriending to adults across Edinburgh through our Wellbeing Calls project. From chatting about hobbies and interests to sharing advice on accessing resources, befrienders are there to listen, talk, and understand, offering a friendly ear to someone who may feel isolated.
This project provides adults with support to use computers and digital devices via phone and online support. This can help with staying connected with friends and family, finding a job online, navigating the web and social media and saving money online.
As we ease out of lockdown People Know How have begun to deliver socially distant Walking Befriending! This project supports people who are lonely to improve both their physical and mental health.
