Shared Parenting Scotland provides information and support for parents and extended family members who are having their relationship with a child (or children) withheld or disrupted following the breakdown of the adults’ relationship.
They are funded by the Scottish Government, funding from trusts, individual donations and other fundraising. They publish a number of ‘user guides’ to help individuals navigate their way through the systems and organisations they will encounter and run online training courses in coping with stress and communication skills under pressure. They also have monthly support group meetings across Scotland (online at the moment).
These meetings are an opportunity for peer support and advice sharing, with a family law solicitor in attendance (pro bono) to give guidance on the law and legal procedures. They are attended by separated fathers and mothers as well as new partners, grandparents and other family members.
