CEDAR (Children Experiencing Domestic Abuse Recovery) programme is a 12 week therapeutic group work programme for mothers and their children/young person, aged 5-16 years, who have experienced domestic abuse.
Outcomes of the group
–CYP/Mother who have been on the programme will have developed a greater understanding of DA.
– CYP have an improved knowledge and understanding of how to identify and manage their emotions.
– Mothers have a greater understanding of the impact of DA on their CYP and are more confident to support their recovery.
– CYP and mothers will have a greater knowledge of safety planning.
Mother and children working together through recovery
The mother’s group and the children/young people group run concurrently, allowing mothers the opportunity to support their child/young person in recovery.
Main referral criteria.
As this is a recovery programme the abuse must have come to an end and the perpetrator must no longer be living with or in a relationship with the mother.
Logistics and cost
This is a FREE service
Children are placed in groups that are age appropriate and are brought to the venue and returned back to school via escorted taxi. The children are given breakfast and snacks throughout the session.
Mothers are brought to the group by taxi and/or are given bus tickets. Mothers are also given snacks throughout the session.
