EVOT Grants for Organisations
EVOT is the administrative structure for the following Trusts:
- Miss A Beveridge’s Trust
- William Thyne Trust
- Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations’ Trusts (EVOT) –
made up of several local trust funds
Criteria for Applications
- The Trustees have revised their grant-aid policies (in a minor way)
with effect from April 2006 recognising the difficulty that local
voluntary organisations face in attaining regular funding for their
main activities. Consequently for the period 2006 to 2010 the Trustees
will provide grants to voluntary organisations properly constituted
and registered as charitable.
- for purposes of social welfare and especially for local initiatives
which benefit people in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and
- when the organisation’s aims and objectives are within
Trust policies, it is solvent and not in debt, and where the plan
is imaginative and sound and the applicant can prove by accounts
and a regular report, with particular examples of activity and
tasks undertaken, that it has made progress in the past year,
or formative year.
- Applications will only be considered from an organisation that has
an annual turnover of under £200,000. Priority is given to local
charitable organisations so that a national organisation will be required
to indicate need in Edinburgh and the Lothians according to the agreed
policy, and that it has an independent local committee and accounts
so that the responsibility is with the local initiative. In this case
the financial restrictions above will apply to the local unit.
- The Trustees may support main core-funding to:
- assist initial progress in any new local charitable
organisation in its initial three year period, by grant-aid
up to £2000 annually to cover any main administrative and
developmental need, or
- assist further progress in any local charitable organisation
or its local project, by grant-aid up to £2000
annually to cover any main administrative and developmental need,
excluding salaries.
- A Grant for a genuine new development, after the first three
years, may also be provided to a local organisation, up to an
amount of £2000 annually, excluding salaries.
- Grants within any category will not exceed a period of three
years.
- Priority will be given to organisations that combat inequalities
and promote voluntary action. Arts or environmental tasks will only
be considered where a significant social service or therapeutic intent
is the main aim.
- Grants should not replace funding from statutory authorities.
Exclusions
Charities with annual income over £200,000.
Grants cannot be provided for general appeals, salaries,
to statutory agencies, commercial organisations or purposes, to private
schools and colleges, or for disbursement by other agencies. Whilst
grants may be provided for essential equipment within an acceptable
project, they are not provided for repairs, extensions and alterations
to property or for new buildings, or for transport.
It is with regret that during this period 2006-2010 grants
will not be available for Schools and related centres for any purpose,
including educational and adventure type projects, holidays or day visits.
Only one application for an organisation will be considered
in a twelve month period, whether successful or not.
