Profile

"‘No More Throw-Away People’ is the ultimate Co-production Imperative (Edgar Cahn)"

I trained as community education worker in Aberdeen, graduating in 1984. My first job was as a youth worker in a young unemployed project, before moving into the voluntary sector in a hostel for single, homeless women run by Aberdeen Cyrenians. My first post with Aberdeen City Council was as a Senior Community Education Worker, eventually moving on to become Community Education Team Leader for Aberdeen City Centre. I was seconded to the post of Co-Director of the University for Children and Communities, a Scottish Higher Education Funding Council sponsored project working in areas of the city with little or no progression into further and higher education. My final job in Aberdeen was project managing Changing Children’s Services.

Information About Current Role

I work with the Voluntary Sector in six of the twelve Neighbourhood Partnership areas in the city, facilitating the development of partnership working, capacity building and engagement with community planning at neighbourhood level. This work is, in the main, carried out via supporting voluntary sector forums and partnership working to develop initiatives such as Time Banks. As a result I have a keen interest in the concept of co-production and am keen to see EVOC take a lead in researching, exploring and piloting new and innovative approaches.
