Profile
"And watching as a boy alone at the quayside / The ships loading cargo in the night / Their names all calling to faraway places / The years go past, the miles go by / And still this childhood romance will not die. (New Model Army ‘Vagabonds’)"
I have worked for 16 years in the voluntary sector, with my first job being at Stoke-on-Trent CVS coordinating an advocacy service for people with physical and sensory disabilities. I moved to Scotland in 1998 and have worked with EVOC on a number of projects including Development Worker with the Voluntary Sector Participation Unit (VSPU) and the EVOC services to communities in the Liberton Gilmerton Neighbourhood Partnership area. I also spent a year seconded to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) in Dundee between 2009 and 2010.
Information About Current Role
I lead on EVOC’s administration of the Innovation Grant Awards – part of the Edinburgh Older People’s Services Change Fund. See my blog in the ‘thinkspace’ section for more information.
I am also the co-ordinator for the Supporting Voluntary Action project to train advisors of charities across Scotland in charity law. Funded by the Big Lottery, the training is aimed at development staff from the thirty two interface organisations based in each local authority area, that work with local charities and deliver advice, training and development support. This project is now in its final evaluation phase.
